Blueprint: Wii gamers to play for charity

Nintendo Wii gamers from Athens area schools will be gathering at Play N Trade this weekend for some preliminary rounds of the first-ever Wee Read Olympics to benefit the charitable Wee Read program of United Way of Northeast Georgia.

Wee Read provides one free, age-appropriate hardback book through the U.S. Postal Service each month to every registered child under 5 years old in Clarke and Oconee counties.

Clarke Central, Oconee County and North Oconee high schools each will hold its own intramural mini-tournament, in which students will compete in the six main Wii games of boxing, bowling, baseball, tennis, golf and Guitar Hero. The high schools will hold their tourneys Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively at Play N Trade, 1880 Epps Bridge Parkway (see chart at right for times) to see which students represent each school in the Wee Olympics, April 30 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens.
